History:

The Free Earth was a folk quartet from the Schenectady area outside of Albany, New York. The band consisted of Shannon Savage on vocals and acoustic rhythm guitar, Jon Knott on vocals and 12-string acoustic guitar, Eleanor Beach on vocals, and Greg Savage on upright bass and backing vocals. 

The group made one album together titled "Come Saturday Morning" in 1970 on the infamous RPC custom label. It featured a couple originals along with some odd cover choices, including Lee Hazelwood's "Troublemaker" and Rod McKuen's "Jean". Most of the album is in the folk realm with some folk rock tinges. Come Saturday Morning (1970, RPC)

Rating: 6/10

Nothing spectacular, a pretty white-bread folk affair. A couple nice obscure covers make this a bit interesting. "Troublemaker" is a nice cut with solo vocals and a moody vibe. That's my favorite on here for sure. "Jean" and "Let It Be Me" are nice somber takes on the originals. The band's original material is odd but interesting. "Positive Mind" is a weird track written by Knott. Very weird group vocals on the chorus but I dig the melancholic vibe and cool lyrics. "Shadows Of Night" is similar but features Savage on most of the vocals (since she wrote it).
